New York bagel.A slightly STALE New York bagel, at that, with some of the center scooped out, so that the meat can be heaped in and the sauce won't make the dough gummy.
The only problem is that great bagels are available only in New York (duh) and southeast Florida. The LA bagel is just a squishy round roll; in fact, more of a donut than a bagel. I actually went to Barney's on Wilshire Boulevard to try the bagels at "Barney Greengrass" upstairs and even their bagels stink. Both the Barneys, Greengrass, who started the appetizing store which begat the restaurant, and Pressman, who founded the clothing store, must be rolling in their graves.
So, here's my offer: If you let me know the next time you are planning a barbecue, I will send out a dozen New York bagels by Two-Day mail for you to try. After Two-Days with the US Postal Service, these should be perfectly stale.
